Coconut Oil - One Woman's Secret to a Better Life

A relative of mine recently told me of her experience using virgin coconut oil to improve her health. This is her story...

Most of the time I have an even temper and clear skin, but my monthly period wreaked havoc each time it arrived, and I'd experience a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde change. The skin on my face would blemish, and my personality would change to match. I didn't feel good emotionally or physically.

That time of the month left me feeling guilty for having treated people rudely, and what I saw in the mirror caused me to become depressed. In addition to these things, I suffered severe headaches that felt like a needle was jabbed into my eye. It was awful! Medications had no effect at all in helping me feel better, and this left me sleepless at night. Bad things seemed to heap themselves on-top of one another in an endless cycle. My husband would grow more and more frustrated as I couldn't cope and function like normal. One day, I said to myself, "Enough is enough! What am I doing wrong?" Surely, it couldn't be my diet... I eat low fat foods and try to keep my weight down by using sugar substitutes and by drinking protein drinks. Although in denial, my body was telling me otherwise. Deep down I knew my problem was nutritional. Obviously, I needed outside help to determine what was causing these issues.

While speaking with a good friend, she suggested that I read a book about traditional foods. Hmmmm... I discovered that these foods lend themselves to supporting hormone health, and I couldn't read the book fast enough. I was determined to solve this mystery. The book was leading me in the right direction and I could feel it. I began reading other supporting articles and soon began to realize that the very fats that I had been trying so hard to remove from my diet were the very fats that I needed in order to have a proper hormonal balance. Women, especially, need certain fats in the manufacturing of hormones, and I wasn't getting enough of them.

Perhaps the best source of good fats that I found were contained in coconut oil. I ordered some immediately and began substituting my normal cooking oil with coconut oil in just about every recipe I could think of. Not only did my food begin to taste better (french fries cooked in coconut oil are absolutely amazing!), but I began to have less cravings for for carbs. I began to sleep better than I had in years, and I even began to lose weight. I was enjoying food again without guilt! My monthly cycle began to normalize, and I no longer had rude outbursts or crying spells. My skin cleared up, and I even had more energy. The changes were very noticeable and I learned more about my body and mind. My life isn't so frantic, and I feel like I'm now in control. The health benefits of coconut oil are real.

My husband and children have benefited, as well. I'm a nicer wife and mom, and have become a better friend. Who would have thought that simply eating fats (the good kind) could make such a huge difference? With virgin coconut oil, my life has changed for the better!
